Regular Verbs
Please note that the information below was taken from Wıı̀lıı̀deh Yatıı̀ Wet’à Edàgot’ı̨ Yatıı̀ Enı̨tł’è, published by the Goyatıkǫ̀ Language Society, edited by Alessandro Jaker, Fred Sangris and Mary Rose Sunberg. The book is an excellent source of additional, in-depth information. This page is intended to be used to support our language classes by providing audio files to accompany some sample verbs.
Most Wıı̀lıı̀deh verbs have 3 parts: A preverb, a middle syllable, and a verb stem. Regular verbs have all three. The middle syllables indicate person and number. For example an "h" is the marker indicating the first person singular form. So the verb form sèhtı̨ can be translated as "I am eating." I have highlighted the middle syllable in purple to make it easier to see.
Example 1: shètı̨ - to eat note: our elder-in-residence, Mrs. Francois, pronounces this verb sètı̨
